As the year draws to a close, we at Study Toowoomba reflect on an incredible few months leading up to Christmas. The last quarter of the year was bustling with energy, filled with milestones, connections, and celebrations that perfectly encapsulate the spirit of our vibrant international student community.

One of our proudest achievements was welcoming a new cohort of Study Toowoomba Ambassadors. To mark the occasion, we hosted a warm welcome event for the new ambassadors and expressed heartfelt thanks to those outgoing for their invaluable contributions. These individuals play a vital role in showcasing Toowoomba as a destination to study, work, and live, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
Among the many highlights, we celebrated the appointment of Dr John McVeigh as Vice-Chancellor of UniSQ, a momentous occasion for our local education landscape. Tammy Wilson, Director of Advancement at Toowoomba Grammar, represented us on a global stage at an education expo in Hong Kong, strengthening Toowoomba’s presence in international education.
The Carnival of Flowers remains a standout memory, with our ambassadors receiving a special invitation as the Mayor’s guests to the spectacular Street Parade. The festivities were unforgettable and an opportunity to showcase Toowoomba’s charm to our new arrivals.
Cultural exchanges were also in full swing, with Concordia welcoming students from Tokyo, Japan—a testament to the deepening ties between our region and the wider world.

Introducing the Toowoomba Field Guide
This season saw the launch of The Toowoomba Field Guide, a wonderful companion for our international students. Packed with fun facts, must-visit places, activities, and even a handy calendar, it’s the perfect tool for exploring our beautiful region and embracing all it has to offer.
Growing Confidence and Connections
Our ambassadors have been stepping out of their comfort zones and into the professional world. They attended their first Business at Dusk event hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, business cards in hand, and began forging connections with local business leaders. They were also present at the Chamber Business Awards Finalist Announcements, soaking in the achievements of the Toowoomba business community.
As part of their role, our ambassadors have started blogging to share their experiences and showcase Toowoomba to the world. Their posts highlight the unique opportunities, natural beauty, and welcoming community that make Toowoomba so special.
Exploring and Embracing the Region
Friendships have blossomed, networks have grown, and the ambassadors are now receiving invitations and offers of employment—proof of the value they bring to the community. They’ve been exploring the region, from scenic bushwalks to serene lakes and waterfalls, always capturing the breathtaking sunsets that paint the Toowoomba skies.

The Queensland Country Tourism Rebrand Launch at Gabbinbar Homestead was another highlight. Attending this elegant garden party allowed our ambassadors to witness firsthand the efforts to promote the region as a premier destination. They also lent their support to the organisers of the International Street Fiesta, further embedding themselves in our community.
A Festive Finale
To close the year, we held our Annual General Meeting, followed by a festive Christmas party—a fitting way to celebrate the achievements and friendships forged throughout 2024.
It’s been a whirlwind year filled with growth, opportunities, and plenty of memorable moments. As we step into the new year, we’re excited to see our ambassadors continue to thrive and share Toowoomba’s story with the world.
Here’s to another fantastic year ahead with Study Toowoomba!
