On behalf of Study Toowoomba, I’m delighted to extend my warmest congratulations to the Hon Dr John McVeigh on his recent appointment as the next Chancellor of the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ).
This is truly exciting news for our region, and I believe Dr McVeigh’s leadership will be a tremendous asset to the University and the wider community. Dr McVeigh’s career is nothing short of remarkable. He has served at all three levels of government, held significant ministerial positions, and has been a driving force behind regional development, agriculture, and education. His work has had a lasting impact on rural and regional communities across Australia.
More recently, Dr McVeigh has made substantial contributions to UniSQ through his role as Executive Director of the Institute for Resilient Regions, among other leadership positions.
What truly stands out to me is how perfectly his experience and vision align with our mission at Study Toowoomba. Our “Study, Work, Live” ethos is all about creating an environment where students can not only gain a world-class education but also find meaningful work and become an integral part of our community. Dr McVeigh’s dedication to enhancing regional opportunities mirrors our commitment to fostering a vibrant and thriving community for international students. His new role as Chancellor will undoubtedly further this mission, creating even more opportunities for our students and the broader Toowoomba region.
It’s also important to recognise the incredible legacy of John Dornbusch, who has served as Chancellor for the past decade and contributed a remarkable 25 years to the UniSQ Council. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping the University’s success, and we are deeply grateful for his service.
As Dr McVeigh steps into his new role on 1 December, we’re excited to see how his leadership will continue to elevate UniSQ as a cornerstone of education, innovation, and community engagement. His passion for regional development and education will be invaluable as we work together to create an even brighter future for Toowoomba.
