Toowoomba Takes the Reins on the Road to Brisbane 2032

Statement from Peter Homan, Chair of Study Toowoomba & CEO, Queensland Country Tourism

The announcement of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Delivery Plan is a moment of immense pride for Queensland – and a historic win for Toowoomba and the Darling Downs. With Toowoomba officially named as a host venue for Olympic equestrian events, we are now firmly on the world stage.

The planned upgrades to the Toowoomba Showgrounds – including new arenas, warm-up spaces, stables, change facilities, and an extended cross-country course – are a testament to the tireless efforts of our local advocates and organisations. It’s proof of what’s possible when a region works together with vision and determination.

But this is about more than sport – it’s about opportunity.

This once-in-a-generation moment will have lasting impact, and one of the most exciting areas is education. Here in Toowoomba, we offer outstanding pathways – from our exceptional secondary schools to a thriving TAFE, and the highly regarded University of Southern Queensland. These facilities not only educate but also inspire – and now, they’re set to play a role in a global event.

For young people thinking about their future, this is an extraordinary chance. Those who choose to study in Toowoomba now may find themselves living and learning in a city hosting the world in 2032. What a magnificent time to be a student here – immersed in a region bursting with energy, opportunity, and global connections.

The Olympic legacy will stretch far beyond upgraded venues. It will influence research, career pathways, community development, and inspire the next generation of athletes, educators, and professionals.

As Chair of Study Toowoomba, I believe this announcement sends a strong message: regional Queensland matters.

We are ready.

We are capable.

And we are proud.

Let’s saddle up, Toowoomba – the journey to 2032 starts now.
