Our Chair, Peter Homan, was honoured to represent Toowoomba on Queensland’s largest international education, training, research, and innovation delegation during the recent Taiwan–Japan Trade Mission. Led by Minister Ros Bates, Queensland’s Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training, the mission highlighted the state’s strengths across international education, tourism, innovation, and research.

Japan Highlights

Queensland is home to more than 5,000 Japanese students and is well known for its innovation ecosystem and strong culture of research collaboration.

Japan is also Queensland’s fastest-growing international tourism market, with 236 Japanese visitors arriving daily through Brisbane Airport. Travel between Japan and Queensland has surged, with visitor numbers up 124% compared to 2019.

Taiwan Highlights

Taiwan is Queensland’s 9th largest international student market, with nearly 3,000 full-time Taiwanese students choosing to study here in 2023.

Tourism from Taiwan remains strong, with over 70,000 Taiwanese visitors travelling to Queensland in 2024.

Over the course of the week-long mission, Peter connected with key stakeholders and education agents, promoting Toowoomba as a safe, inclusive, and high-quality destination for international students.
