We are thrilled to introduce Councillor Melissa Taylor as the new Council delegate to Study Toowoomba.

Born and raised right here in Toowoomba, Cr Melissa’s deep local connections and impressive professional background make her a wonderful addition to Study Toowoomba.

Cr Melissa’s educational journey began at St. Thomas More’s Catholic School, followed by St Saviour’s College. She then went on to the University of Southern Queensland, where she earned a Bachelor of Business with a double major in Economics and Politics.

Before stepping into her role as a Councillor in 2020, Cr Melissa spent 14 years in fashion & retail management. She then joined her family’s business, Taylor’s Removals, and made history as the first female Managing Director in four generations. Her leadership brought significant innovations and accolades to the trucking industry. It was during this time that Cr Melissa also initiated a workplace training program for high school student via TAFE. The personal and professional development that the students received awarded them a Certificate 1 from TAFE.

Cr Melissa’s hard work and dedication have earned her many awards, including:

Trucking Woman of the Year (2015) by the Queensland Trucking Association

National Trucking Industry Woman of the Year (2016)

National Women in Industry’s Award for Excellence in Commercial Transport (2016)

High Commendation from the Queensland Supply Chain and Logistics (2016)

Queensland Trucking Association’s People Leadership Excellence Award (2016)

Induction of Taylor’s Removals into ‘The Heritage Bank Business Excellence Award Hall of Fame’ by the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce

Cr Melissa’s dedication extends beyond her professional achievements. She’s been an active contributor to various boards, including The Empire Theatre and Toowoomba Clubhouse (now Momentum Health), reflecting her commitment to our community’s cultural and social well-being.

As a Councillor, Melissa is deeply committed to public service. She recently joined the Toowoomba Regional Council Local Government Disaster Management Group, where she will work to ensure the safety and well-being of our region’s residents.

In addition to her business and public service roles, Cr Melissa has also had a career in fashion, seamlessly transitioning from heels to boots. Her versatility and creativity make her stand out as a dynamic leader who brings a fresh perspective to every role she takes on.

“We are excited to welcome Councillor Melissa Taylor to Study Toowoomba. Her unique blend of experience, leadership, and passion for our community will be a tremendous asset to Study Toowoomba. Please join us in welcoming Councillor Melissa Taylor. We look forward to an inspiring and collaborative journey together. Study Work Live.” Peter Homan Chair of Study Toowoomba.
