Concordia Lutheran College – A Story of Education, Faith and Community in Toowoomba

Oct 21, 2025 | Toowoomba Schools

Concordia Lutheran College has been part of Toowoomba’s education story for nearly 80 years, bringing together history, learning and community across its three campuses.

The College’s Stephen Street Campus is home to the heritage-listed Redlands Building, built in 1889 by Englishman Edmund Wilcox. Surrounded by bunya and Norfolk pines, Redlands began as a family home before becoming the foundation site for the Evangelical Lutheran Church’s vision for a new coeducational secondary college.

That vision became reality in 1946, when Concordia College officially opened with 27 students under Principal Professor Rudolph Altus. The name Concordia, meaning agreement, unity and harmony, captured the spirit of collaboration that continues to define the College today.

Over time, new campuses at Warwick Street and Hume Street were established, each building on Concordia’s commitment to faith, learning and community. In 2007, these schools formally united as Concordia Lutheran College K–12 — a single community inspired by shared values and a strong sense of belonging.

Today, Concordia welcomes students from across Australia and around the world, fostering an environment where education, global citizenship and Toowoomba’s community spirit thrive together.

We’re proud to have Concordia Lutheran College as part of the Study Toowoomba network — helping students Study, Work and Live in a city that values both its history and its future.
